Digital collections

The Danish Academy in Rome has digital collections that enable researchers to access important research material.

The archaeological database is a very comprehensive collection of finds from two of the most important excavation projects that the Danish Academy in Rome has been involved in: the Temple of Castor and Pollux (Dioscuri) in the Roman Forum (1982-1987/1994) and a Roman - possibly imperial - villa on Lake Nemi in the Santa Maria site (1998-2002).

Danish and Scandinavian Travels and Stays in Italy is another large database that collects Danish and Scandinavian artists and scientists travelling to Italy from the 11th to the 20th century.

Material in the database
The database contains 6,349 records with material from the excavation of the Temple of Castor and Pollux. The original material consists of finds, sketches, plans, original drawings, photographs (b/w), negatives and slides, most of which are included in the database. The material is presented in the database in the form of negatives, slides and digital recordings.

The Castor and Pollux database can be accessed directly here from the Academy's website, and it is also incorporated into URBiS, the joint Roman library database, from which there is a link to the database in the respective search.

Material in the database
The database contains 13,537 records from the excavation of the Roman villa at Lake Nemi in the Santa Maria site. The original material consists of finds, sketches, plans, original drawings, photographs (b/w), negatives and slides, most of which are included in the database. The material is presented in the database in the form of negatives, slides and digital recordings.

The Nemi database can be accessed directly from the Academy's website.

The Danish Academy in Rome began compiling the database registrant "Danish and Scandinavian Travels and Stays in Italy" in 1998. Since then, the database has grown in size and completeness and now covers the entire country, spanning the period from the 11th century to the early 20th century.

The database contains a wealth of drawings, paintings, diaries, letters, memoirs, poems, novels, etc. that together provide in-depth knowledge of travellers' lives, especially in Rome and the surrounding area. In other words, the material is an important addition to our knowledge of "travelling to Rome".
